There are certain clients you look forward to working with again, and Melissa is definitely one of them. I first photographed Melissa last year during a fitness session. She brought great energy to that shoot and was comfortable in front of the camera from the very beginning. When she reached out about maternity photos and told me she was expecting her second child, I was excited to help document this next chapter in her life. For her maternity session, we met at Murrell Park on Grapevine Lake. It turned out to be one of those evenings’ photographers hope for but don't always get. The weather was warm, the skies were clear, and the sunset put on an incredible show over the lake.
A Perfect Evening at Murrell Park on Grapevine Lake
is one of my favorite locations in North Texas for outdoor portrait sessions. Between the shoreline, rocky landscape, open water views, and beautiful sunsets, it offers a variety of backgrounds without having to travel far between locations. As we walked through the park, the light continued to improve throughout the evening. The combination of soft sunlight and the natural scenery created the perfect setting for maternity portraits. Melissa looked amazing throughout the entire session. Having worked together before, she already understood posing and movement, which allowed us to focus on creating natural, relaxed images that highlighted this exciting time in her life.
Celebrating Baby Number Two
One of the things I enjoy most about maternity photography is helping families preserve a moment that passes quickly. Pregnancy is a unique season of life. It can feel long while you're experiencing it, but once your child arrives, the months seem to disappear almost overnight. That's one reason maternity portraits become so valuable over time. They allow families to look back and remember the anticipation, excitement, and joy before welcoming a new baby into the world. Melissa brought a calm and positive attitude to the entire session. She was willing to try different poses, work with the changing light, and fully embrace the experience. It made creating these images easy and enjoyable.
Golden Hour at Murrell Park
As the evening continued, the sun began dropping toward the horizon and the entire landscape transformed. The golden light reflected across Grapevine Lake and wrapped around Melissa beautifully. These final moments before sunset often create some of the most flattering and dramatic light of the day, and this session was no exception. Many of my favorite images from the evening were created during the last few minutes before sunset. The warm colors, peaceful atmosphere, and stunning views combined to create portraits that feel timeless. Sessions like this are a reminder of why I enjoy photographing people. Every session tells a different story, and being trusted to document important milestones is something I never take for granted.
